Dr. Babits, took over the Thal Equine Taos veterinary practice in September 2006 and now operates her solo practice, Medicine Wheel Equine Center in Taos and Tucumcari.

Goals of Medicine Wheel Equine Center:

  • Provide compassionate, caring, state-of-the-art veterinary medicine and surgery to equine patients on a local, regional, state, and national level.
  • Provide a haven for horsemanship and correct training - be it dressage, western, ranch work - through apprenticeship programs, clinics, demonstrations, seminars, and training of individual horses and clients.
  • Provide a boarding environment for horses conducive to their most natural way of living.
  • Provide training and services to stallions for collection and artificial insemination.
  • Provide safe and reasonable transportation to not only veterinary patients but on a national level.

Dr. Babits is also working on establishing a reputable training center that offers special individualized training/retraining, clinics; seminars for horses with behavioral problems and other training issues, observation and evaluation of subtle performance problems and resistances encountered under saddle; reserach, exploration and cultivation of the Horse-Human Herd bond through special horsemanship programs.

The Center will be using Dr. Babits' own personal system of training and understanding the mind of the horse.

Medicine Wheel Equine Center Mission Statement:

Helping to heal the mind and body of horses through client education, outstanding veterinary care and comprehensive horsemanship. To provide a place where the well-being and care of the horse is of primary importance, whether through veterinary care, boarding programs, rehabilitation, or training.

  • Complete mobile veterinary services with portable x-ray, ultrasound, dentistry
  • Regular preventative health and wellness care
  • Nutritional consultation and advice
  • Behavioral consultation
  • Standing two PRE stallions of Llano Estacado Andalusians

Medicine Wheel Equine Facility:
The main equine center is located in Tucumcari, New Mexico just off I-40 and Highway 54 in a very easy to find location.

An office with hospitalization options is located in Taos to serve Northern New Mexico.

The headquarters of the Tucumcari facility are located at the veterinary clinic, which consists of a fully equipped equine hospital including exam room with stocks, radiology room, ICU stalls, drop-off pens, pick-up pens, a farrier room, and an excellent lameness evaluation area.

The boarding facility has 12'x16' stalls. Each stall has a large paddock with a 14' overhang. Each horse has his own heated water. A large riding arena and round pen are available for working, as are trails for riding throughout the property. Boarding is also availalbe in large paddocks with run-in shelters, which allow the horses room to move. Each area of large pens has a central barn complete with feed room. The hexagonal barn is ideal for either stallions or mares with foals. MWEC, LLC has boarding options to accommodate any horse and any situation.
