Elizabeth R. Babits, DVM
History of MWEC, LLC

Medicine Wheel Equine Center, LLC was begun by Dr. Bessie Babits in September of 2006 in Taos, New Mexico. The practice has routinely served Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado since that time, in a primarily ambulatory capacity. Circumstances arose which enabled the expansion of MWEC, LLC into Eastern New Mexico. "The mesa country, grasslands, and 'cowboy country' have always lured me to the sweeping Llano Estacado landscape, as have the hardworking, salt-of-the-earth people who work their horses and cattle on a land full of grit and history," Dr. Babits said.

Beginning in late summer of 2008, MWEC began to provide services to the Tucumcari, New Mexico region, and plans developed to build a state-of-the-art equine center complete with veterinary hospital, stallion station, boarding, transport, training, and clinics. The business continues to operate in Taos as well, with an office and hospital capabilities there.

The people of MWEC, LLC are dedicated to horses.

Dr. Bessie Babits, DVM, the founder of MWEC, LLC graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors from Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in Pullman, Washington in 2004, externed at Idaho Equine, the premier equine hospital in Idaho as well as at Littleton Large Animal in Littleton, Colorado. Her emphasis in practice is on lameness, performance horses, and reproduction. She also trains and competes professionally in dressage and doma vaquera on her Pura Raza Espanola (PRE, or Andalusian) horses. Additionally, she has been starting colts professionally for clients since the age of 13.

Steve Floeck has played an integral part of seeing the idea of a whole-horse center come to fruition. He is largely responsible for the expansion of MWEC, LLC into the Tucumcari region. He has a natural talent with horses, and in particular likes training the foals and working in aspects of equine reproduction. He oversees the boarding and transportation part of the Equine Center, as well as working as a veterinary assistant. Steve also works as a "flying cowboy" and flies on the large ranches in the area to help locate stray cattle. In his Super-Cub airplane, he can tackle any task no matter how big or small! He is the inspiration behind the entire outfit!
